Rainshadow Retreat

San Juan Island, WA

This project captured my heart. When the client reached out to me to work on a project on San Juan Island, I was elated.

Rainshadow is the name of this property originally designed by one of the greats, Olson Kundig. The absolute nature of the design on this island is brilliant and the views spectacular.

THE DETAILS

The homeowners are talented artists themselves with writing & poetry, music and painting. Their love of art has amassed beautiful collections and in Rainshadow, they chose fabulous eccentric, colorful pieces to be showcased in the home. Large volume bookcases that envelop the main living space allow them to be immersed in both music and books.

EIDEWEST was hired to assist in furniture selections for this oceanside retreat that allows the owner to enjoy their surroundings both inside and out with functionality in mind. Simple, yet striking pieces were selected in unison with the client, taking cues from the geography in color selections. Due to the nature of the elements on the island, exterior fabrics and materials were used to preserve the longevity of each stunning piece.

Capturing color, texture and a simplistic style in order to allow the views to take center stage are apparent in this home. Clean, beautiful and inviting, this home provides the perfect PNW retreat.

ENDING NOTE

It is possible to achieve many great things from afar with technology and a sound team. The Rainshadow team ensured great communication with all parties involved was streamlined from the beginning to the end. I am absolutely stunned by the beauty of this project, the location and the passion these clients have. I am absolutely grateful to have been a part of this gorgeous interior transformation that retained the original architectural beauty of Rainshadow.
